The region of Anosy is located on the extreme south-east of Madagascar. Part of the province of Toliara, it is bounded to the north by the regions of Atsimo-Atsinanana and Ihorombe, to the south and east by the Indian Ocean and to the west by the regions of Androy and Atsimo Andrefana. The region of Anosy is made up of three districts: Amboasary-Sud, Betroka and Taolagnaro, of 5,498 km2, 10,173 km2 and 14,060 km2 respectively. Its capital is the city of Taolagnaro, known also under its Malagasy name Taolagnaro, located in the south-eastern “corner” of the island about 1,120 km from the Capital Antananarivo. The average annual temperature recorded in the Anosy region is between 23 °C and 24 °C.  But, the temperature varies significantly from North to South the city of Taolagnaro, is located at the southeast corner of the island, on the coast, the temperature reaches 28 °C in February and drops by 17 °C in June-July. On the other hand, in Betroka, which is located in the north of the region on the plateau of Ihorombe, the maximum temperature does not exceed not 20 °C in February and can drop to 10 °C in June-July.

The Anosy Region is home to several types of ecosystems: terrestrial ecosystem, coastal ecosystem and ecosystem Sailor, all equally fragile and under great pressure, of various forms the strongest pressure is on natural forests, which are on the verge of disappearing, but which are nevertheless the object of conservation actions. The existing rainforest within the region covers an area of 192 410 km2 , dry forest an area of 200,014 km2.

The Port of Ehoala is a multifunctional deep-water port, with a depth of 15.75 m at berth. He It is a port of public utility, but under private management. The Anosy Region has enormous mineral resources, industrial minerals such as stones Fines: ilmenite, bauxite, zircon, mica, gold, sapphire, beryl, garnet, amethyst, crystal, etc. Deposits of precious minerals (gold and precious stones) exist at various locations in the region. The Andranondambo sapphire is the best known, but other deposits have already been identified, such as Maromby (sapphire, gold) Tranomaro (Tourmaline), Esira (Beryl, Alexandrite, …), etc.

The Anosy Region is well known for its tourist sites that make it one of the main tourism regions of Madagascar.

The region is distinguished in particular by the number and variety of its tourist sites:

  • seaside sites, with somewhat peculiar beaches located at the foot of a chain of mountains, including: the beaches of Libanona, the Bay of Lokaro, the Bay of Sainte-Luce, the Bay from Italio, Cape Evatra ha, etc. Ecological sites, including its primary shade forests, extending across the East Coast since Tolagnaro and the dry forest (bush) of the Centre-North, the Ando haela National Park, with its fauna and its endemic flora. Conservation areas in general, the 18 conservation areas in the region confer a special status of eco-tourism region, including: the Berenty de Berenty Private Reserve world renowned, the “waterfall estate”, the Nahampoana Reserve, the forest of Mandena, Saïdi’s garden, Ambatoabo , the mountains, in particular, the Pic Saint-Louis in Tolagnaro, the mountains of Ando haela, etc.;
  • walking sites such as: the Manantantely Waterfalls, etc.;
  • nature observation sites, including the entire Côte Dauphinoise for the observation of the seasonal whale passage and dolphin waltz watching offshore;  special sites such as Ranomafana Thermal Waters, etc.;
  • historical sites such as the Portuguese Fort, the tomb of King Rabefialy.

The Reserve of Berenty located 80 km west of Taolagnaro is one of the destinations very popular with tourists. It is an area of 240 hectares of primary forests, preserved by Henri de Haulme in 1935. The area remains protected because everything is almost intact, both the fauna and theFlore, this “sanctuary of nature” is also a national heritage. Lemurs and others animals, chameleons, snakes and various reptiles, turtles, etc. live there freely.
