MADAGASCAR : FREE VISA FOR STAYS OF 15 DAYS OR LESS
Now, for stays of 15 days or less, passengers to Madagascar no longer have to pay the visa fee. However, a fee of EUR 10 for border control formalities remains to be paid.
Indeed, foreigners coming to Madagascar for a period of 15 days or less will only have to pay 10 euros instead of 35 euros to be issued their residence visa.
he Ministry of Tourism has communicated on its page that “If the visa remains mandatory and can be requested on arrival, the cost becomes reduced”. Until now the fee for shorter stays was 35 euros, an amount that remains due for stays of more than 15 days. For stays of one to three months, the cost of the visa on arrival is 40 euros.
The tourist visa
A tourist visa is required to reach Madagascar. And your passport must be valid at least 6 months after the date of your return. Remember to bring your return ticket.
To obtain it, there are two possibilities:
- Either obtain it before your departure from the Embassy “Ambassade de Madagascar"
- Either get it on arrival at Ivato or Nosy Be International Airport with the payment of €35 for a stay of less than or equal to 1 month, €39 for a stay of more than 1 to 2 months, €54 for a stay of 2 to 3 months and €58 for a long stay visa. This information is subject to change and should be verified with the embassy.
Coins and small tickets are recommended upon arrival as the authorities do not always have them. Since 2016, you can purchase your e-visa before departure. It will nevertheless be mandatory to have it validated upon your arrival.
Formalities upon your return
- Check-in
- To return
Check-in for long-haul flights to Europe and Bangkok takes place 3 hours before take-off. For regional flights (Mauritius, Réunion, Comoros, Nairobi, Johannesburg), check-in takes place two hours before take-off.
The airline will give you, at the check-in counter, a form to be filled out and the authorities will check it out. It is recommended that sufficient time be allowed for formalities, at least one hour before take-off.
The local currency (Ariary) is no longer accepted after having passed the customs.
It is therefore recommended to spend or exchange the rest of his Ariary before; it is possible to do so at the kiosks in the lobby of the airport entrance or at the Elabola restaurant on the first floor.
Under customs you will find a bar (where you can buy drinks and snacks), duty-free shops and a WiFi zone. You will have to pay by credit card, Euro or US Dollar.
