Ambatondrazaka

Ambatondrazaka

Ambatondrazaka is, located in the province of Tamatave . It is the capital of Alaotra-Mangoro Region and Ambatondrazaka District . The city of Ambatondrazaka is located in the Lake Alaotra region , a vast rice-growing plain located northeast of the capital. Small hills or tanety surround this plain. Erosion phenomena (due in particular to massive deforestation) form lavaka , tearing apart its sides. The environmental consequences are numerous: silting up of the rice fields, reduction of the lake level and therefore of fish resources. The city of Ambatondrazaka is schematically represented in a geometric “t” figure, divided into two distinct areas.

The first which is located on a hill that forms the foot of the city and above all the oldest because it contains the first structures of a city in the sixties, even during the colonization – in 2010 the city paid tribute to the former magistrates of the city and the 50 years of the denomination “urban municipality”.
The second area made up of recent settlements from the 80s and 90s, considered as an immigration area for the surrounding populations, shows the root of the letter. In the rainy season, it suffers from rising water levels but is not at risk of flooding like the one that devastated homes around Madagascar’s largest lake, Lake Alaotra in 1959. Before the 1980s, during the socialist of the Ratsiraka regime, the city had its popular cinema – in the square – to educate the youngest, in addition to paid theaters, a municipal swimming pool frequented by many people from the city and also by foreigners.
